The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is responsible for improving the safety and security of international shipping and for preventing marine pollution from ships.

The International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code is the international guideline to the safe transportation or shipment of dangerous goods or hazardous materials by water on vessel. It defines classes of hazardous or pollutant cargo. These include:

  3. Flammable Liquids
  4. Flammable Solids
  5. Oxidizing Substances
  6. Toxic & Infectious Substances
  7. Radioactive Material
  8. Corrosives
  9. Miscellaneous Dangerous Goods
